Crows on the Fortress

So I ended up in Belgrade Fortress again (I love that place) and decided to take some snaps of the crows fighting each other for scraps of food. They were fascinating to watch, attacking one another in airplane-fighter style, soaring up and then dive-bombing each other over the edge of the fortress wall. It was also quite a workout for my neck since they were so fast, I'd give myself whiplash trying to follow them zipping past and at the same time trying to get focus with my zoom lens. Needless to say I managed to get a few decent snaps in, plus I had a curious little chap land right in front of me. Fun times :)

Doggies in the Park

Just a few snaps of some furry friends in Kalemegdan...

This guy just needs a shaggy mane and he'll look like a lion :P

Kalemegdan, part 1 of many...

Kalemegdan is a huge park in Stari Grad, Belgrade. It is full of sights, paths, market stalls, crows, pigeons, laughing children, kissing couples, etc etc etc... I even spotted an old lady sneaking in a pee behind an electrical box. I looked away hastily, wondering what I had in my bag with which to wash my eyes. There was an awkward moment as she walked past me afterwards, because I don't think she had realized I was sitting nearby. Oh well, she had relieved herself, and I was relieved that she had buggered off. Apart from the outdoor bathroom antics of a pensioner, the park was wonderful...

A hungry crow, pecking in the snow for a piece of something that resembled a discarded piece of chewing gum. Eew. I hope it was something a little more savory for the crow's sake. But still, he posed for me, I snapped some pics, and we went our separate ways.

Unfortunately this one is out of focus, but I was impressed I managed to snap it! I literally lifted my camera the moment it took off, pulled focus and snapped before the camera was even properly at my eye. Shooting blind win! :D

Such a sad pic. This was at almost full zoom through my 300mm lens, so I framed it accordingly. This man was simply taking a stroll, and even appeared to have a slight spring in his step :P

Belgrade Fortress

The Belgrade Fortress is situated in Kalemegdan park, in Stari Grad, Belgrade. Its hard to describe the feeling of "epicness" that place exudes from every stone - ancient and new! Its a site that has been built on, attacked, conquered, razed and rebuilt numerous times over the past 2000 years - at one stage, even Attila the Hun commanded this land!

This is without a doubt my favorite place in Belgrade!

Gardoš in the Snow

Gardoš is a little town in Zemun, Belgrade. If you climb right to the top of the hill, you get to Kula Sibinjanin Janka, or The Tower of Janos Hunyadi.

It is 116 years old, and was built when this part of Serbia was still a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

I couldn't decide which was more impressive: the tower, or the view from the top of the hill!

Prelepo, zar ne? :P

Art Dealer

Another shot along Knez Mihailova. Anyone who has walked along there recently will recognize this. I remember the same pictures (the orange and blue coloured ones on the right) from when I was in Belgrade last August. I wonder how long they've been on sale for...

Rainy Knez Mihailova

Knez Mihailova, the pedestrian street which leads to Kalemegdan in Stari Grad (The Old City) in Belgrade, Serbia. This was just a casual shot with my trusty little Canon PowerShot SX220 HS, and the picture came out great! I love the colours and the general feel of this pic - a cold, grey, wet, winter's day. Lovely! :D hehe
